Haiti has been in a transitional state since July 7, 2025, following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, led by the international community. Does it seem that Haiti is becoming a curse for the Haitian people, who are experiencing painful times with armed gangs murdering and killing the Haitian population like wild animals?
Since April 2024, under threat from the U.S. State Department, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the international community, Haiti has had a transitional presidential council of nine presidents.
A small country of 27,750 square kilometers with the financial burden of paying nine presidents at $78,000 per month for each president.
The Haitian people say no, they don't want these nine presidents. On the contrary, as always, the U.S. State Department stated in a statement that it supports the nine-presidential transitional council, which governs Haiti. The Haitian people say no to the nine-presidential transitional council, and the U.S. State Department says yes to the nine-presidential transitional council.
The representative of the Montana Accord, Fritz Alphonse Jean, transferred the presidency of the nine-presidential transitional council (CPT) to Laurent Saint-Cyr, a private sector representative who has been widely criticized for having ties with the Viv Ansanm coalition. The ceremony took place at the Villa d'accueil in Musseau, attended by members of the CPT, government representatives, the Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) Rameau Normil, the Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H) Derby Guerrier, the Head of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) Godfrey Otunge, members of the diplomatic corps, and other organizations working in Haiti.

Inaugurated as head of the Presidential Council since March 7, 2025, Fritz Alphonse Jean, an economist by trade and a critic of a war budget, gave a positive assessment of his term.
"My colleagues and I have worked hard to support law enforcement in the fight against armed gangs," he said.
He also praised the work of his predecessor, Leslie Voltaire, who, he said, had greatly facilitated his mission. "Colleague Leslie, congratulations!" " said Fritz Alphonse Jean with emotion.
He also expressed his best wishes to Laurent Saint-Cyr, reportedly holding his Canadian passport, who will assume the presidency of the Council during the final phase of the transition. Who will arrive in Haiti on February 7, 2026?
In his inaugural address in Haitian Creole, Laurent Saint-Cyr affirmed that the time for words is over, but for action. While thanking his colleagues on the CPT 9 presidents for their commitment to national recovery, he reiterated his desire to contribute fully to the success of this political transition.
"I call on Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and his government to redouble their efforts in the face of the suffering of citizens, who are facing a multidimensional crisis," he declared in his speech in Haitian Creole.
"We will work actively to enable the return of displaced families, forced to flee their homes due to attacks by armed gangs."
The new President of the Presidential Transitional Council also called for national unity, inviting all sectors to come together to find a lasting solution to the current crisis.
It should be noted that Laurent Saint-Cyr's term, which began on August 7, 2025, will end on February 7, 2026. Whether there will be another transition on February 7, 2026, remains to be seen.
Fifteen months after taking office, the Presidential Transitional Council is still struggling to achieve its core objectives. Meanwhile, armed gangs continue to expand their influence, both in the capital and in several provincial towns, murdering the population like wild animals.
